Two Asiatic Lions seem to be in a playful mood as they sit in scrubland near the village of Sasan on the edge of Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary, some 480km southwest of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. An endangered lion that survives only in the Gir Forest, the Asiatic Lion has increased in number to more than 400 due to decades of conservation work, officials said. The Asiatic Lion once roamed across southwest Asia but is now restricted to the 1,410sq km Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary and the surrounding jungle.
