Asiatic lion cub named Sundari

KANPUR: The lone-surviving cub of Asiatic lioness Nandini has been named as Sundari. The christening is normally done in one-two months. But the keepers in Kanpur zoo named the cub after just 11 days of its birth. The cub which was 840 gram at the time of the birth is now active and gaining weight.

Zoo director Deepak Kumar said that Sundari is a nice name. He said that usually whatever name is decided by the staff is accepted and finalised. "We are keeping our fingers crossed and hope that the cub grows well as its mother has disowned it due to it being week at the time of birth. The cub is being hand-fed by the zoo vets and it would continue for two months," he added.
